What we do
In 2008 we raised over $215,000. This allowed us to proudly complete our first duplex project and see two deserving families achieve the seemingly unattainable dream of home ownership. These families were actively involved in the construction process and have committed to give back by completing 500 volunteer hours in the community.
Following the success of our first project the Town of Drayton Valley again awarded us with another $75,000 grant. The next year and half was spent applying for grants, raising funds and planning for the future. Again, with overwhelming support of the community, in 2010 the Foundation started our second build. A bi-level home has been built and we have seen a third family - in our third year - achieve home ownership.
As a result of the volunteer commitment of the families they have become actively engaged in many different organizations and initiatives. The lessons that they have learned about the importance of working for the benefit of others in this community has instilled a sense of social responsibility that will be passed on for generations to come.
The Foundation is not only addressing the affordable housing problem, but is creating a sense of community pride amongst those involved with the project. It has instilled an overall feeling of well being amongst not only the volunteers who have gave countless hours to this project, but also has created a sense of belonging for the families who have benefited. The commitment of these families, as well as the countless volunteers who participated in the project, are a remarkable Community’s demonstration of the Town of Drayton Valley’s motto “Pulling Together”.
